In this article, we will cover the 5 W’s of IOSH Managing Safely – what, where, when, who, why?
Firstly, what is IOSH Managing Safely?
Well, to begin, what is IOSH? IOSH stands for the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health; this is the Chartered body and largest membership organisation for health and safety professionals (with 50,000 members worldwide).
IOSH was initially formed in 1945 and has provided consistent and competent resources and leadership in occupational safety and health. This was eventually recognised in 2022, when IOSH received a Royal Charter.
IOSH sets the standard for safety and health professionals across the world; to provide core training and increase their knowledge, to add to the experience and understanding of individual professionals. For the majority of people, their first experience of IOSH is through a training course, such as IOSH Managing Safely.
IOSH Managing Safely is a Level 2 qualification and builds a foundation for delegates to develop their understanding health and safety and learn how to put this into practice. This is split across 7 modules:
- Introduction
- Assessing Risks
- Controlling Risks
- Understanding Responsibilities
- Understanding hazards
- Investigating Incidents
- Measuring Performance
Guided via IOSH’s animated slides, workbook and approved trainers, delegates will review health and safety law, principles, good practice and review case studies to
learn lessons.
After a multiple-choice exam, 100% attendance and sample risk assessment assignment, each delegate will receive their certificate.
So, where is IOSH Managing Safely Training held?
At Safety-on-Tees Consultancy, we deliver courses across multiple training venues within the Teesside area. Our function rooms will allow for delegates to be comfortable while concentrating, with all of the stationery, learning tools and refreshments that create a positive learning environment.
If you have 7 or more delegates within your business / organisation, then a bespoke course can be delivered at your business premises or a conference suite suitable for
your staff.
At Safety-on-Tees Consultancy, we deliver such essential training in-person as we feel this is the best way to learn. Case studies and groupwork are harder to develop
and benefit from via online training.
So, when can a person attend IOSH Managing Safely?
Once a job role or individual has decided that they would benefit from such training (see WHO section) then they can register their interest via our website or email
address: hello@safetyontees.co.uk
We understand the impact on a business of sending a delegate onto a training course for 5 days, and so we have 2 flexible options.
We can deliver IOSH Managing Safely in one block week, Monday to Friday.
Or we offer the course 1 day per week, for 5 weeks.
Either way, delegates on our courses will receive the highest quality training and support (via revision sessions and additional help where required).
But who should attend IOSH Managing Safely?
This qualification is designed for Managers and Supervisors in any sector, any organisation; to develop their understanding of health and safety. By explaining safety responsibilities to such management roles, delegates will identify why safety needs to be an integral part of their business.
If someone is not a Manager or Supervisor, but aspires to be one, or is in a safety critical role such as a Union Member, then IOSH Managing Safely will also make a positive impact to their safety knowledge.
No-one looks forward to exams or homework, and so our qualified trainers are on hand to help you every step of the way. Do not let any worries about literacy put you off; please speak to your trainer in advance so they are aware and can assist you in gaining the most out of your sessions.
Finally, why should you attend IOSH Managing Safely?
For all of the reasons explained above, this course really opens delegate’s eyes to health and safety. As an approved trainer, it’s a pleasure to see delegates have their “lightbulb moment” – when health and safety makes sense, what they have learned now slots into place and they become enthusiastic about making changes in their business.
Our Health & Safety team are all Chartered Members of IOSH, which is an honour to attain and maintain this level. Due to our wealth of experience, we strive to make the IOSH Managing Safely courses that we deliver motivating, specific and applicable to the role that delegates play in their business / organisation.
